Arcanum1.dat

HI

I posted this here cause you guys dont have any tech forum.
when i tries to install Arcanum, it installs about 94% and then just stop reading, and then after about 10 min a popup appears and claims that
Arcanum1.dat cant be read cause of "End Cycle something"
If anyone knows how i can get hold of this file or download it from somewhere, please reply.

I still dont know what this prob is and dont care anymore, after a whole week of searching and hoping for an answer, im gonna take it back to the store on monday anyway, its kinda sad, but enough is enough. :cry:

 

this will sound cheeky, but

a) did you clean the disk/check for scratches?

b)is your cd drive working?

c) do you have enough space on the drive?

if it aint either of those, its more likely to be a problem with windows

 

Dude, don't get so angry, we aren't tech support people. This is a players forum, so I don't know if anyone would be familiar with your problem.

If it isn't any of the thing Some said, try private messanging Dark Underlord or Chrisbeddoes, they both know alot about Arcanum, although this may not be their area of expertise.

If they can't help you, either try Troika, or post back, and I'll see if I can help. I doubt my Arcanum1 file will work, I think I hacked it to all hell, but that might have been 2, I'm not sure. Ah well, I probably have a backup...somewhere...

 

Im not angry, not anymore. I was tired and i didnt go back with it either (I tried the demo last night, and it worked perfectly so decided to keep it for a while.)

and i defragged my pc and sent the cd in for a cleaning (it got one scratch), so i guess it cant be my pc thats doing this.

and i have and Philips DVD CD-rw, fully funtional.

and i live in scandinavia, so i guess sending the cd to troika for an new one can get expensive for me, i did mail them, but no answer yet.

is it possible that i can use the dat from the demo? ´cause im still not able to get arcanum started...and arcanum1.dat is nowhere to be found on the net or anywhere.

And now im sure its the dat who is f***ing this up! i copied everything from my cd to the pc, and when it read the arcanum1.dat file it choked and that error mess showed up everytime i tried.

 

It sounds like you got a defective CD and need to get it replaced. I'm not sure if just replacing the dat file will do the job since the game runs off the CD that file is read from. You may have other problems with that CD that will show up during game play in the future and the best bet is probably to bite the bullet and send it back to Troika for replacement as a bad CD. I realize that's not what you want to hear, but it's what I think will work best in the long run. You could also try emailing Troika for other alternatives and explaining your situation very politely. Good luck with it, in either case.

 

Do you try to install by placing both disk one and two in 2 cd drives ? this may cause that error.

well i mailed Troika about 2 weeks ago, explaining my prob, but i havent got any reply yet, so i guess i take this back and ask if they have another one.

Chaosthehobo: well im sorry but i was rather pissed off after spending that ENTIRE evening trying to install the game, and getting nowhere.

well no need to email them no more either, cause i went back with the old one today, and they gave me an shiny new unopened arcanum! now it works perfectly. thanks for your efforts.
