It consumes my life! I've had Arcanum for about a month and I keep restarting all the time, trying out different character combinations and such. The Dwarf Wizard was fun, but too fatigue-expensive. But anyway, I thought I'd see if there were any massage board forums about this game, and a link on Wikipedia brought me here. So yeah, hi there. Arcanum is fun.
Hey thanks! I'm celebrating getting a character with +100 alignment! I'm so good! Getting -100 evil alignment is easy using the "Dark Helm" thingy, so that wasn't worth working towards.
with any luck you will join the exclusive "Never Actually Finished the Game Because I Just Had to Keep Trying New Characters" club. of which i am treasurer. i would be the leader, but i'm a follower.
Oh, no! It's a New Zealander! Kill it!* *Just my way of saying hello, don't worry.** **Or is it?*** ***No, really just joking.**** ****Seriously. Chill.
I have finished Arcanum several times, but not in any of my recent games. Even after having this game for years I'm always thinking up new character types to try. Edit: and welcome aboard.
I thought I was the only person with that problem..... I restarted at least 14 times before getting done with the black mountain mines before finally settling on a char, and even then I stopped playing (for now, anyway) because the prospect of doing all that crap again didn't seem fun. I kept restarting because I had a better understanding of the game system or was totally switching character concepts. I'm hoping a few months time (and Christmas break between semesters) will make it seem new again.
Hey, Arcanum eating your life too? I've finished the game three times; with REALLY evil human mage(-100 without helmet or "sold your soul"), charming half elf thief and child of hero warrior (sword/bow combo) Most fun was evil mage, she was specialised in summoning and dark necro, imagine the fun you can have with that I catually had the guard in terant, caladon and derenholm chasing me, aswell as all of shrouded hills villagers and in the end even Gilbert bates had to die when he and his ogre tried to jump me. Luckily that was towards the end of my journey, I just wanted one of the guards chainmail before I went off to the void and things just... well you know how it is, slaughter people in a city or two and you'r bound to owe Karma something. Currently playing as tech-mercant. Economy's booming but my automaton has to work overtime to keep me alive and virgil is really making use of his armour since he's basically my human shield. I love this game, if I ever have the money to buy the movierights I will make a movie out of it.
Try playing it Indiana Jones style. Keep your magic/tech level close to zero, and you can enjoy the best of both worlds - within reason, of course.
THE most fun you can have in Arcanum is playing a half-ogre with the intelligence of 1. The dialogues become downright hilarious.
In Australia, we have a joke about New Zealanders and sheep. Remember to finish the game being good and evil, the latter is espically nice since you can do anything and not really care about it.
My brother got me this game for Christmas this year. He ordered it online and sent it to me from Japan (he's in the Airforce) and had never heard of it before I mentioned it to him. Long story short: just reading the box got him hooked and now he's foaming at the mouth waiting for his own copy to arrive in the mail. It probably doesn't help that I keep telling him how fun it is to play, and all the further I've gotten in the game is the second town because I've been starting over and over again with new characters. I think I'm on my 8th one now, a half-ogre, death knight, necromancer type. Who'da thought.....
Welcome , and Arcanum is the greatest game. When you have finished the game and all the things come up what you have done good, bad etc.etc. can Dernholm and Cumbria like "rise out of it's ashes".
