How to choose the items wielded by my followers ?

I'm probably stupid, but here is my problem:
I just started the game (I'm lvl 3, in Shrouded Hills), and I can't understand how to access Virgil's Inventory Grid in order to choose for me which weapon, armour and so forth to use.
If I click on Virgil, I can provide him with the objects I wish him to use, but how can I be sure he will do so ?
I'm desesperatly looking for the same 'Wield Slot Pane' my character has.
I'm very used to games such as Vampire The Masquarade or Summoner, in which you could perform such tuning. Is it possible with Arcanum too ?

well...

Of course you can. In Virgil's inventory screen, click on the little 'human' button next to the little 'sack' button. This gives you access to what items Virgil is currently using.

I couldn't find this in the manual. Maybe the french translation dropped some sections...

You can't, at least not directly.
Followers make their own (sometimes stupid) decisions about what they wield. The only way to make them use what you want them to use is taking away say a sword and giving them another sword. They'll usally swap automatically if you give them something more powerful but not always.

Wump is right here. I've shown you the way to access this, but Virgil (and other NPCs) choose what they want. It's like, I like this weapon better so I'll use this. Only way is to strip them off their weapons.
