I just got the game and I wanted some advice on how to create and develop my character. The most important thing is I want to be able to play every quest. I know that completing some quests might negate the possibility of completing other quests but I just never want to not be able to do a quest cause a stat isnt high enough. The second most important thing is that I want to be a bad ass killer, whether that is from spells tech or melee i dont really care. Just what ever does the job. Any suggestions?
Then you'll need to get a savegame hack. Some quests depend on your race, alignment, sex or tech/magic bias. Besides this is a roleplaying game. So pick a role and play it. You don't need anyones help to do that. [ This Message was edited by: Otto Krupp on 2002-02-24 15:43 ]
So you'd need a hermaphrodite character, with at least 50 tech and 50 magic, who has all stats at at least 15 pts. And you need to have points in most spellclasses / characterthings / techs.
ok i get it heheh ok i understand. There is no way to guarantee you can get all the quests. But just as far as stats are concerned, like charisma and intellegence and beuty, which are most important for getting quests? I know I wont get all the quests but attribute-wise i just want to increase my chances of getting more quests.
Off the top of my head I can't think of any quests that you get based solely on your stats. I think its determined by everything else like who you talk to, alignment, race, sex, tech/magic, skills and what you've done and who your allied with. For example you only get the thieves quests if you join the Underground etc...
High Charisma and Intelligence will get you more Quests. They'll give you dialog options you wouldn't have otherwise.
There are at least two quests in the game for EVERY stat/skill/race/etc... So, the best way to play every quest qould be to play Arcanum with every race/skill/stat/etc... It adds replay value to the game... Although, it's not that many quests for you to actually notice. Most of the quests require nothing at all, just a chat to the right person.
You left out Perception Feldon. There's a few quests where having a high perception lets you notice some details and open a few new dialogue lines. I'd watch that Interplay cow stuff Underlord. Considering their current economic difficulties they might sell you to the slaughterhouse. [ This Message was edited by: Otto Krupp on 2002-02-25 15:33 ]
so if I wanted to make a character that had a high intellegence, charisma, and perception, is it still possible for that character to also be a good killer? I would assume if I wanted him to be a strong killer he would have to rely on tech or magic since he probably wont be that strong or dextrous.
*sigh* Sounds like you want to "Min/Max" to me. Don't know if you know that term but back in the days of Pen-n-Paper RPG's thats what you called it when someone was only concerned with creating a character that would "win" ,whatever that meant, not actually trying to develop an alter-ego. This is a roleplaying game not some kind of competition. Like I said before come up with a idea for character and just get into the role and play it.
If you're going the path of perception and intelligence, then I suggest my own favourite.... The Gunsmith!! The intelligence will let you learn to make the higher guns and the perception is what you need to raise your firearms skill (so you can actualy HIT what you're aiming at). This is how I played Arcanum my first time... Low strength and dexterity (didn't pump them up until the end) but a high firearms/intelligence/perception. Never had a problem once I got my Looking Glass Rifle. Before that though, you'll need about 1000 bullets on you because your skill will be so low that you won't hit anything and you'll go through 400 bullets to kill a Rock Golem. ..... And slaughterhouse Otto? They'll never get my cow!!!
Perception quests What quests are based on perception? Also, in terms of getting the most quests, keep in mind that EVERY skill has a Master and that in order to get Mastery in that skill, you must perform a quest for it. In fact, I'm on a new character now (definitely some replay value) that I'm trying to turn into a JOAT - Jack Of All Trades. I want to see how many skill masteries he can get. But to do that, he's not pursuing hardly any tech or magic skills. That'll have to be another character entirely. (And yes, this one has a purpose and a personality. His background lets him train his followers, so his purpose is to experience the world, learn from it, and share it with others.) Btw, Charisma definitely has some strong benefits in terms of being able to get additional followers. That's a tough call - pumping up your own stats or trying to get more followers. Though once you get Dog (who doesn't add to your follower limit and so isn't based on Charisma), you'll be able to fight most anything in the game.
Gunsmith! sounds like a perfect idea for me. I'll just pick a race that is intellegent and charismatic and I wont have to worry about strength or dexterity or constitution since I'll be far away when I fight + ill be a good talker and can have lots of npc's to help me. Thanks for the tips guys.
Just to let you know: You don't need to invest a single point in Gunsmithy to create the best gun in the game, Droch's Warbringer. You can build it using Manuals and a found schematic. Points in Firearms is, IMHO, a waste.
Just to toss a wrench in the mix - make sure to bump up your dex. Dex is what your speed is based on. Some of the lower tech guns are pretty slow. So, if you have a low strength and Con. you won't have that many hitpoints. At lower levels, if you run into that roving band of wererats you will get chewed up if you can't shoot fast.
easy way to up the strength and combat skills without using points: use the army training background... it drops your dex a point, but by the time you hit any enemies worth mentioning, you'll be up a couple lvls anyway...
