It seems like to do any quests in the boil you must be a magician or a melee & dodge master, or have a party of expert fighters. Yeah, sure, I've done the quests a number of times, but it seems like the enemies are unbalanced, being able to close with you in 1 second or less. It's like they have permanent haste and are all melee and dodge masters. With enemies like that Arcanum should've included artillery.
My battlemage wipe them away with ease.I had level 29,st 15,dex 15,fire college 1, force college 1 and a Dog. They didn't even touched me. *************Good dog!!***************** PS. Yeah, you must be some sort of muscle/High mage to smash them out. Those orcs are realy tough.I suggest to put Virgil out of fight 'cos he'll probably die.
A few things to keep in mind here. One, you really don't need to enter the Boil in any kind of early game hurry. Except for personal enjoyment, the only "need" might be if you wanted to say, recruit Sebastian. Sebastian is lvl 30 and won't join you until you are at least that high, so if wanting Sebastian, the most logical reason I can think of for going through the Boil, you can wait until lvl 30 before going there, at which point you should be capable of defeating the inhabitants thereof. I have also found that at high character levels and high strength dissuades the gang members guarding the entrances to the sections of Boil from attacking you. Lastly, it's best to go against Clan Maug. Why? It's members consist mostly of lvl 30 orc beserkers WHO ARE ALL SPREAD OUT. You never have to fight more than 2 at any point in the Bentley. If you take out the Pollock Gang, yeah there character levels are a little lower but you have to fight the whole gang at once, and that can be a tough fight without good health, fatigue, and combat skills. Just a few things I've noticed to keep in mind when venturing in to the Boil...
Don't know if this still works for the Maug orcs, but it worked for me. If you cast a simple Disarm spell, they pretty much resort to bitch-slapping you until you pick them off. 0 damage per successful hit. It's when they have the big ugly axes that I get chopped into pieces before I have a chance to fight back.
