HELLO AGAIN!!!! You missed me? Hahaha! Well, I´m here again!! :hump: I have one question for all you who are interested: What do you think of the English spoken in the grrrreaaaat ARCANUM? Well, as far as I´m an English Philology student, I´m quite amazed on how faithfully the game reflects the English spoken in that ages. For example, we can see expressions as "Alas", or "Aye", that were lost (or lost their common use), and are only spoken rarely in some areas of England or so. Well, sorry if my question is a bit stupid  , but by now I´m studying the origins and evolution of the language and I love that beautiful treating to the English in the game itself. _ Yes, I love the game!!! And I love English!! So I love the Game English..... AND I DON´T WANT IT TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH!!!!!!!!! Uf, sorry. Thanx for reading it!!!!! :akimbo:
Well, I'm kinda used to that english, since I play two fantasy MMORPG's... In english classes I tend to say "Aye" instead of "Yes"
I actually use Aye in every day speech, just like "alas", "a Fortnight", "Milady" and various others... Classic english sounds nifty!
Well i noticed that they spell magic "magick". I do not know if it is spelled differently in the US, but my Collins Cobuild essential dictonary 1995 edition, says otherwise. And DU, shut upp!
No, it's spelled "magic" here as in any other place. I don't know excatly where they got that from, maybe it's just old english immitation or something.
I liked the language yet I think it should be varied a bit more. IMO there should be strong differences between for example coastal and mountain cities' languages even in such aspects like swearing.
Does anyone know what has this annoying little man :hump: on his mouth? Haha! I see the Wnglish will still have its own sense and personality. As you said, we all like the classic English. Hell! Now I´m going to begin using that old little "Alas" and "Aye" stuff! Yes...........SIR!!!!! :deadly: By the way, great emoticons!!!! :akimbo:
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - magick is a correct, viable alternative to magic. Actually, you can legitimately replace the ending 'ic' with 'ick'. Just don't do it too much, or you'll look like an idiot who can't spell .
The Superior Persons Great Big Book of Words¹ backs me up. ¹Not an exact match to my book, but same author, different version.
It's been proven on more than one occasion, that when you learn lots of new words it pushes some old stuff out of your brain, hence your delusions when it comes to simple words such as magic. Looks like a good book tho....Makes you want to become a teacher just so you can write reports on your kids using lots of fancy words no-one knows in exchange for bribe money. Or is that just me?
I never once saw an "'ello gov'nah!" in arcanum... isnt that from that time period? How could they forget that!?
gov Maybe they went for ye olde american english over the english english. The ole 'ello govnah' is very bad front teeth lower class, dirty suit wearing pipe smoking english men. Magick is Wiccan, witch, druids or what ever you choose to call them.
