Well i have a run-of-the-mill halfling thief that likes his stacking Agility of Fires and them crazy bows. Here's the trouble i've been having:

-Small Oiled Thieves Leather: I just can't find it. Admitedly , he's still rather small (well i supose he'll always be , heh) and only been to the more acessible towns (no Caladons or Quintarras) , but either way , it would be nice to know.

-The Big Mess: Here's where it gets ugly. This guy's basically going to be limited to one follower all game , which is fine by me , but whoever they'll be , they're gonna have to keep quiet as i loot every damn shopkeeper (even junk peddlers) in every town , in broad daylight. I believe this limits me to:

Sebastian , Tollo Underhill , Weldo Robin (spelling?)

I don't exactly count on vollinger here , though i still haven't seen him doublecross me , so that might be fun.

But it doesn't stop here , oooh no. You see , i'm thinking about Dark Helming this character , and i was wondering what the consequences of that will be in terms of my follower options and story arc choices as well.

Oh , one tiny thing , does anyone have any idea why the blessing soundfile keeps playing everytime i change my Lockpicks with the Jewel of Hebe worn?

Keep checking the magick trader in Black Root or the shopkeeper of the Tarantian Underground. I tihnk the Tarantian blacksmith also sells them occasionally.
You can simply tell your follower to wait, and then go stealing on your own. Vollinger is a good companion, though gunslinger followers aren't much in fighting most of the time.

Look in the Black Market in Tarant. He has it most often. Any magic shop may have it as well. Beware, the large OTL uses the same graphic. Read the fine print.

If you are neutral to magic, keep an eye out for the Small Robe of the Chemlion (SP). Elven Boots help here as well.

I have put together the all prowling sub party more than once. Sebastian & Vollinger are pros. Tollo might be better than you. I have never tried Weldo. Magical followers, even Vergil, can come allong with a Shadowing Robe.

If you are a skills based thief, Tollo is too much of a duplicate. He comes with some spot trap, 2? & 2 in disarm IIRC. You will probably have everything else he has.

Tollo & Sebastian will both get to picklock 5. But if you rely on their skills, give them a lantern or the Miner's Helmet when they work. They have no training, & low lighting is a terible penality for them.

There are free ways to raise your CH by 2 - 5 early in the game. The difference is, of course, MA/TA related.

Sneaky! If you can't trustyour fellow thieves who can you trust? I'd like to join the underground , but other than persuading Lukan , is there another way? I believe either someone in a bar or Caladon gossip mentions it , but is that enough?

I am pretty much a duplicate of Tollo's , which is a pitty , but a Dual-Halfling Pillaging/Murdering Machine of Doom (or DHPMMoD) sounds like a nice twisted joke on the Ren'Ar twins. I already have pickpocket , locks and prowling at the 4+ spot , which is why i was looking for the leather , but it also means i'm pretty much self suficient.

Oh , tip for aspiring Bow thieves: Go to Dernholm get your Apprentice and Expert training , vacuum all the arrows on the Bow Captain while he's asleep , then pop goes the compound bow. What a nice , easy to get early weapon.

You can also buy a Compound bow the first time you come to the blacksmith in Tarant. Its not too expensive. I usually get it there, as by the time I reach Dernholm my stealing skills are still low.
The Compound bow is also a required part to make the Pyro bow- the ultimate tech ranged weapon, which I love dearly.
Its a real pity that there aren't any tech archer followers in the game. That Pyro bow in Tulla is too late to wait for to get it for yourself, but too tech for even Waromon to weild...
P.S. Hmm need to consider playing a halfling...

Halflings are loads of fun to play. I had a halfling assassin who killed anyone he wanted to and right now I'm playing a halfling miracles operation. He is a gunfighter who is going to build an army of mechanical friends to help him.

I'm thinking of playing a halfling gunfighter/educator with a tech only team (Magnus, Jayna, Vollinger, Sebastian, Franklyn Payne, maybe also some free non-tech follower to carry my bullets and grenades). The trouble is that a halfling won't have the tech bonus, so I might not be able to get a firearms expert in Shrouded Hills, maybe not even break into the chests of the SH shopkeepers, which is absolutely necessery for getting enough bullets to start with

Halfling Miracle Operation gives you enough perception to get Expert firearms without putting points into it. It also makes you very, very weak. I grabbed the camara from the crash site and ran out. Once in Shrouded Hills, grab Sogg and do as many quests in town as possible to get some levels. Put three points in firearms and get expert from doc roberts. My solution to getting bullets is to pickpokcet rizztees key from him while he is sleeping, this lets you take gold and anything else you want from his chest. The gun you get from the Bank Robbery is good to use for a while although you do need to put 2 CPs in ST so you can meet its MSR of 5. With some luck a little planning your little halfling can turn into quite the decent fighter and they make good technologists.

Here's the dilemma. I want an educator background to make my gunslinger followers more efficient in combat, so miracle operation is kinda out of the question. I'm also playing an unpatched game, which means my followers will stop levelling up as soon as I hit level 50. If I want them developed to their maximum (and I do) I need to get Jayna when I'm level 5-6 and Magnus when I'm level 7-8. So I must leave Shrouded Hills when I'm level 5-6, with three points invested into firearms and two into lock picking (so I would have armor and weapons for fighting Lukan). There is no way for me to get a firearms expert before I leave SH.
Come to tihnk of it, fighting Lukan without Sogg might also be a bit of a problem...

So don't fight him or even talk to him. Pickpocket the key & come back later with friends to help. Or use the patented Shadygrove 'equip the bad guys with Railroad Spikes' method.

My favorite method is to combine Shadygrove's patented "equip the bad guys with Railroad Spikes" method with the Demosthenes's "lay traps everyone for them to kill themselves on" method. To do this without putting a point in Mechanical, you would have to steal the key and come back wtih Magnus.

One of your big problems with using the educator background and playing unpatched is that you will have trouble getting magnus and jayna as early as you can. You will need to put 4 points into CH before level 8 to do this (2 if you get the two free points in Tarant). My advice would be to patch yourself and then do it. I would also advise taking Persuasion to expert level so you can get one extra follower. It would also be wise to put a point in CH in Shrouded Hills so that you can get Sogg to deal with Lukan. Even though you'll have to give up Virgil, Sogg is a much better fighter. The point in CH won't be wasted because you'll need to put a whole lot in anyways.

I can get Magnus by becoming a persuasion expert, it gives one extra follower and I can make it with 2 CP's and Jayna's elixir of persuasion. 4 CPs into charisma can wait, I'll need them for Vollinger (level 14-15).

What two free CH points in Tarant did you mean? One is from Madam Tussaud, the other one... Jewel of Hebe?

Yes. & before you get too far past 30% TA, the Ring of Influence will still give you 1 each CH & BE.

    Your welcome.
Can I please be granted Huggle Master status?
I'm sure why this appeals to me so much, but it does.

You know, that would make a great custom title for you if you're ever offered the opportunity.

    Huggles for everybody! :bunny:
