So whats up with this area? You got some monkey guarding a chest of magic stuff, that attacks you. Then you get to all those paladin slaves that sends your alignment and party members reactions southward? What yah supposed to do, sneak in and get the blade then drop it in the oven? Even though the rep loss is recovered by burning the blade, most people seem to keep the blade. So what do you do...... just kill ole stingy pete and steal his ship? Parmanian is confused!
Destroying the blade is the quest, so that's what you're "supposed" to do. I don't think "most" people keep the blade, just evil powergaming lunatics who don't care if their followers have a low opinion of them. You can destroy the blade and get the ship, or keep the blade and kill Pete and get the ship, or destroy the blade and kill Pete and get the ship.... Your choice.
