Ok, I have a problem. I'm doing the quest where you have to find out who told Kendrick Wales about Misk having the book. So I got Elmer's address, went to his house, saw him die and he confirmed he was Elmer, and Carrington told him, and everything. So I go back to tell her, and there are no dialogue optionst to do so! I checked a guide and apparently Carrington is supposed to be dead, but he is not! How do I make this quest proceed?
Yes, I patched before I started the game. I love Arcanum, its my second fav game of 2001 after Halo(please don't hurt me) but I've encountered like 5 big bugs so far, and I'm using the latest patch.
What kind of bugs are you finding? I'm playing Arcanum and trying to fix some small bugs that I encounter. Depending on the kind of problem I can look into it. They usually are solve with a missing line or flag. The fixes I've made: Lianna: Dialog will not end whe she refuses to train you because you don't have the required skill. Ms Cameron: Correct greeting for low reaction, and correct dialog and actions depending on how you did her quests. Mr Plough: Will not ask for the quest again on low reaction. Nasrudin: Dialog will continue with Virgil and dumb character (IN<5) Willian Radcliff: If you sell him the ring he'll act like you gave him after the bridge instead of asking for it again. General Priest: Corrected one missing line when greeting you with barbarian clothes. Sammie: Dialog could quit depending on your options. I'll have a look on this one and see if I can fix it.
I'm not entirely certain but I think that talking to Wesley -- the butler in the prim, white suit -- about Elmer Burbottom BEFORE you go to see "Kendrick Wales" opens up the the right dialogue option with Mrs. Misk after you witness the murder. Who knows?? Maybe I'm right.
I checked this quest and the trigger to report Misk is to have talked with Elmer. When you talk to him a rumor is added on your log book and this rumor is checked, if it's there you have the option to report to her. You must have intelligence 5 or above, but with intelligence below that I don't think you even get the quest. If that doesn't solve maybe I can change it to check a global flag already used when you talk to Elmer.
Have you got the passport? In one of the houses in Dragon's Tournabout in Caladon (I think it's the top-right most house as far up on the screen as you can go) there is a passport sitting on the floor, under a bed or behind a chest of draws or something, and it's a fake passport for the butler (I think it's the butler; can't remember rightly). Anyway, showing that to one of the people involved in the Misk quest should open up more options. I can't remember which person it is though, but you'll find out - just talk to everybody. Sorry I can't be more help more; it's been a while since I played Arcanum now so my memory is a little tarnished with respect to specific details. :/
Well, Ferret, you got one thing half-right: that WAS the butler's passport, but it was his REAL one. It's cleverly stashed underneath the sofa at 9 Gray Wolf Terrace, the Misk residence. The only reason it's there is to point you towards 25 Dragon's Turnabout, the butler's pad; you don't even have to pick it up to find that out or complete this quest. From what Dedeco says, it sounds like Aerothorn's journal didn't record his meeting with Burbottom and he therefore doesn't have the correct dialogue option with Mrs. Misk.
