Okay, this might be a little difficult to explain, so please bear with me. First, a little information on my character: I'm a Human Male with the Raised by Monks background and I'm hoping to receive a Doctorate in both Electric and Gun Smithy.

Initially, I had planned on only getting my INT up to 9, and then use Essence of Intellect potions to learn the remaining schematics in those fields. Apparently, though, learning schematics in this way doesn't raise your Expertise in the field.

I've since decided to complete the Gods quest, and this will save me enough CP to max out (or nearly max out) my INT. Now, when I boost up my INT and learn the next schematics in these fields, will my Expertise be where it's supposed to be, or will it be lower than normal?

For example, I used an Essence of Intellect potion to learn the third Electric schematic. My Expertise would normally be at 30, but it's only at 20 from using the Essence of Intellect potion. If I were to boost my INT to 13 and learn the fourth Electric schematic, would my Expertise be at 40 (where it would normally be), or only at 30?

Sorry for the lengthy post. I probably did a shitty job explaining all that, but, eh, I tried.

I believe that if you raise your intelligence normally (and really, the benefits are too good not to do so), your expertise will rise at the same time to the appropriate level. I'm also fairly sure that you could just use another essence of intellect every time you want to use your schematics.

    I've completely misunderstood your question haven't I.

IN is used in expertise as well as the number of schmatics. If you check your character sheet while under the influnce of the potion of IN, you will have the corect expretise for the number of schmatics you have. You can watch it fall as the potion wears off.

You can use the potions all game with no ill effects. Perhaps addiction....

I'm inclined to doubt addiction to intelligence. Personally, I view that trait as something of an affliction.

We agree on something. Perhaps it is a curse. Life seems so much simpler for those of even average capicity. Sometimes I wish i could turn it off.
