I'm trying to get the mayor of Black Root to realign himself with Denerholm. After having a few problems I cheated and looked at the quest walkthrough, but I'm still having trouble. The walkthrough lists 3 ways to get the mayor to come back over to Denerholm: 1. Pick his pocket (i don't have the skill) 2. Show him the newspaper. Well, I had the newspaper from Denerholm that described the problems between the two countries, but never got a dialog message to show it to him. When I tried to "use" the newspaper and clicked on the mayor I ended up throwing it at him and being attacked by his guards. 3. Find his dagger, well... I have looked ALL OVER for this bandit camp, and can't find the thing ANYWHERE. Could someone help me with 2 and 3 please? [ This Message was edited by: Elexen on 2001-09-13 18:05 ]
2. Using the newspaper is a dialogue option - you have to talk to him and figure out how to offer the paper to him 3. Always look at town maps for trails - they almost ALWAYS lead somewhere interesting...
Black Root cont. Ok, no offense, but that wasn't very helpful. as far as 2 goes, I guess I didn't say the correct thing to get that option. But as far as 3, i really am stumped with this one. I've followed the path until I left the area and didn't see anything. I've also walked up and down the map in a tight formation to try to cover the entire zone but still can't find the camp. I realize I must be missing something fairly obvious... but nonetheless I am still missing it.
not offended. i personally prefer hints to solutions so i was trying that first. the theives are north of the train station across the river (look for a ford) they're along the path north of the river.
Dropped Paper and Lost it I gave the mayor back his dagger and he still refused to give me the taxes. So i killed the 2 dock workers who are really tarant guards in the black barracks. However no dialogue option saying the guards are dead was available like last time i played the game. I tried to find the paper again but i dropped it in cumbria and i think the game got rid of it. I am an apprentice in steal with 1 point spent so I can't take the gold off him. Help!
Brem, If you REALLY want to complete the quest, you can use a fate point to "force" a successful pickpocket. This quest is not necessary to complete the game however. In fact, i spent a long time internally debating the ethics of forcing blackroot to realign itself with a dying empire... ~Aldin
Once you return the dagger, there is a dialog option to tell him that his "police" can't even protect him from common thieves, or something to that affect. He'll ask what solution you suggest, and that's when you can tell him to re-align with Dernholm (sp). You can do this without any persuasion skills.
