every time I get into a fight I either drop my weapon or I get a crap load of critcal misses and end up killing my self. What the heck?
well maybe you didn't place any point in melee or your using inappropriate weapons..For example, your a tech and your using magical weapons just like a mage using tech weapons your critical failure chance was very high specially if you have high aptitudes....hope this helps... and almost forgot... welcome to the forum... Heh, finally got one over on you, Skie. Anyway, to add to what's already been posted, certain weapons also will cause more critical failures, namely the Filament Sword. Check and see if that's what you're using. Also, if you're fighting a creature that has a high dodge skill, that can cause you to critically fail more than usual. Lastly, if you picked Nietchze's Poster Child (was that the name?) as a background, then this will also cause more critical failures.
Hooly crap you guys are assume. i posted this 5 minutes ago and you have nailed my problem. I am using the Filament sword and I haven't put anything in melee. Thanks a bunch.

I HATE the filament sword. I NEVER got an increase in critical hits, but man, those crit. misses....I fell down, scarred myself, cut out my eye, cut off my wanker all in one blow....
:lol: That's exactly why I love the filament sword. Once I played through Arcanum a few times, I went all sado for some reason. I started doing horrible shit to myself just for kicks. There's nothing like cutting yourself in half with a pyro axe while Virgin criticizes your fighting technique.
Halflings have an innate +5% chance to critically hit, there are items that add to your chance to critically hit and backstab mastery gives a bonus to critical hit chance (10% I think?). Melee mastery also makes it so you cannot critically miss...unless you are fighting something with dodge mastery that gets a critical success to dodge. I hadn't thought of that...getting a filament sword with melee mastery for many a critical hit...nice tactic there! Also, there's nothing like Virgil cracking his sword over his own head, knocking himself unconscious, doing +100% damage and breaking his weapon...Then he had the gall to call me retarded a short while later...
