Found strange item

I found an item that I hadn't heard of before. It was a Hellfire Medallion and the specs were simply "fireflash DOT". Anyone have any idea what DOT stands for. I checked the game docs and didn't find it. My closest guess is Destruction Of Target, but would like to know what it really means.

Thanks for the info. How does that work in gameplay?

 

Random casting of it perhaps?

Or perhaps it charges up so to speak and you get to cast it i.e. you'll get the casting icon.

As for the DOT, yeah, damage over time sounds about right...at least it does for all the poison and fatigue items...

 

its a cool item, sells for a coupla grands.
