How do my flowers stats get leveled?

How do my followers level up & how do they use they're character points? I checked Virgils character sheet & he has 2 points but I can't pick where they should go does this just get auto leveled when the time is correct?
I started a new game, last time my backround was "Child of a Hero," this time I choose "Mad Doctor" but I almost choose "Educator" because of the advatage of being able to teach followers for example to be an aprentice when you hit expert & expert when you hit Master ect. But you have -1 max folowers. So as an "Educator" would I be able to use the points as I want?

 

Could this be a bug?

Which is good - if we could define EVERYTHING about our followers, Arcanum would be like other games (BG or even Fallout Tactics! (I actually like Fallout Tactics, it's a really cool strategy game with very minor RPG elements)).

 

Difference makes a game better?

 

Sometimes. If every game was the same, wouldn't this be a shit boring game, that we've played already before? How exciting would that be?

Admittedly, some games are shit, either because they emulate other games too much, or are way underfeatured. Other games are brilliant, because they only use good bits from other games, and then change them a little to make them better. Variety IS the spice of life after all...
