hey what does a mechanised arachnid do? it looks really cool but should i use points to get it and are you able to make alot of them or are the parts hard to find? i invision my charicter to be surrounded by an army of little spider robots that just kill anything that trys to mess with my guy. is this just a dream or could it be a reality?
Unfortunately, it's closer to dream than reality. It takes a lot of CP's to max out a technological discipline. My first character got 20 strength, 20 dex and 20 intelligence, and maxed the smithy discipline. He also had 12 CP's left over. You get 64 CP's, assuming you get to level 50. Now, onto the mechanised arachnids. If you do want an army of robots, I suggest automaton's. They are much better, but also much harder to build. To build an automaton you need to max both smithy and mechanical disciplines, because it requires a mechanised arachnied and an elite plate - the only person who can make an elite plate is you (or Magnus, if you edit his levelling scheme). Mechanised Arachnids require a small steam engine and large gears to build. The large gears is fairly easy to find, it costs about 1000 gold from the junk dealer in Tarant. The steam engine though, is much harder to find. I know of only one place to find one in the wild, and there's two places to find one - except that the second place charges you more than twice as much as the first place. You can buy one from the inventor in Tarant, but they show up VERY rarely. One rank of haggle and 9 beauty results in a cost of around 4500 gold. 9 beauty and no haggle from the second place (the inventor in the Wheel Clan) results in a cost of 10000 gold. The good part is, when you first visit the Wheel Clan, the inventor is guaranteed to have a steam engine. I don't know about other visits, because I destroyed the chest it was in. To sum up - a mechanised arachnid is good. An automaton is just so much better, but so much harder to build. The parts for building them are all fairly easy to obtain, except for the steam engine. Unless you use the shopkeeper hack (which I don't) you are going to have a very hard time finding steam engines. They are extremely rare.
Ive played the gaem as a techie..and auto matons are DEFINATELY worth the tim e to make. Juast advance time outside the shops until that magic littel steam engine shows up. Theyre hard to make..but there with you till theyre dead- and they shoudl last forever since bith sleep ing and repairing them makes their life go back up. and... unlike armor and stuff repairing htem doe NOT make their maximum hit points go down. THem main complaint i have witht he arachnids....is the speed. Automatons on the other hand can run as fast as you (sometimes faster)..and theyre strong. A level 30 automaton is as strong as virgil at 50..no kidding. Secondly.. maxing the gadget and smithy skills is the only real way for the discerning technologist to get truely good armor. (you can buy books for all the electrical stuff honestly). IN a nutshell. YOur dream... can be reality. But instead of little spiders..... imagine a bunch of android warriors
Maybe you could get away with just smithy maxed, since you can find a few mechanized arachnids. I dunno if anyone else will find this at all funny, but when Chrysallis said: I thought he was making a joke about the tech books you can get being like "Gun Smithy in a Nutshell" or something  I wonder what li'l animal they would have on the front ...
nicely put, chrysalis, jarinor... but to say something of the spiders, they came in a variety... the regular one, the poison one and the medical other(anything I missed out). So they look much better in an army, u know having a medic and two types of fighter.
It doesn't look that much like an arachnid though... I mean, the legs should be spread out more (shut up in back! :smile, and it should look more...menacing...
it looks like an arcnid(if that was Ioo saying what u just said i would have said "your moms looks more like one"
Hmm.. Terribly sorry about that ill placed sentence fragment. "in a nut shell". Ironically enough, i am generally a good writer , but for some reason on messages boards i tend to use "stream of consciousness" technique to convey my thoughts. Coupled with inferriiiior typing skills i look Like a blithering fool. Oh yea.. proofreading is for pansies.
