Found schematics are usually cross-discipline, and often require quite high aptitude levels.

On the schematics screen, each ingredient has a symbol and a logo in the top left of its box, telling you what discpline is required to use that ingredient and how high your aptitude needs to be.

There are very few schematics you'd be able to make without boosting your aptitude in at least one discipline.

To boost your aptitude, you will need the books from the Tarant University. Go there and find the guy in the back room selling tech manuals. They cost 750 each, weigh 200 stone apiece and work like this:

    • For each book in your inventory, your aptitude in the discipline is boosted by a number equal to your intelligence
    • You can have as many books as you can hold
    • You only need to hold the books when building stuff
    • You don't have to "use" the books as such, just have them in your inventory
    • You can use books to boost your score in any discipline, not just ones you have points in
    • Having the books does not affect which schematics you know (e.g. you can't get to a tesla rod through the books, you have to learn the schematic through putting points in electrical).

    Hope it helps.
