Porn is like any other genre. It's a stylized representation of something that happens in life. Granted, "stylized" in this case means male-egocentric and, more likely than not, demeaning to women, but it's done to get a reaction from the audience. In this case, making guys horny. Horror movies make us scared with stylized depictions of violence. Tearjerker movies make us sad. Heartwarmers make our hearts warm.

I get what you guys are saying about the desensitization, but I look at it a different way. A kid that's not apt to be into HARDCORE LOLITA ANAL FISTING is not going to like that kind of stuff no matter how jaded he gets. And I think that any misconceptions a 14 or 15 year old boy has concerning porno like sex will quickly be cleared up when he actually meets a girl and falls in love with her.

I know I'm on shakey ground here, but to me the porn causes perverted kids argument sounds an awful lot like the violent media/video games/movies caused Colombine one.

Ugh, the mind boggles at the sheer amount of DNA gluing the pages of those magazines together...

 

You'd be surprised how little 'glue' there was...The fact that there was a roaring trade meant that you didn't want to damage the 'merchandise'. Not everyone had 2 magazines (you had to buy them, it wasn't like a library) - there were just enough going around. 1 or 2 people had sports bags stuffed full of them they kept in the roof. They had either confiscated or stolen them, and re-sold them, sometimes back to their owners .

 

So there was like a big hall somewhere in Australia full bunk beds and boys in Angus Young type schoolboy outfits furiously jerking it after lights out to porno mags?

If you care to write up some accounts, I could probably get you in touch with some priests who are into reading that kind of stuff. It's like Penthouse Letters for the Ordained.

 

I know what you're saying, Milo. I'd not suggest that we blame movies for violence, although I DO believe movies have the capacity to ... er ... move us. Any experience does. Still, violence is NOT a product of movies, in my opinion, in any but unusual cases.

Sex is different, though. Our attitudes to things like violence and stealing are nurtured through many channels. Parenting, friends, schooling, the media, whatever, but sex isn't. It's a personal thing. Some people get a bit of dry information from school and parents, plus more information/misinformation from their friends. Most of it is left unexplained, and we end up working it out through experimentation.

If you replace the unknown with a whole crapload of porn, I think it could have a big impact. Maybe it wouldn't matter if it was balanced out with extremely effective eductation programs or parenting, but what're the chances of that happening?

 

Ah...no...

More like small domitories (biggest held maybe 10 or 12 people), and usually well-hidden magazines (no locks for a while there) and people reading them either in their little bit o' space or in the toilets. Some deviants were occasionally caught in the showers, but the less said about that, the better.

Although I'm sure the higher-ups knew what was going on, people were rarely busted. Depending on who caught you (if you were, I wasn't) they would sometimes let you go. One guy who had been at the school for 30 years as a teacher/administrator/whatnot was unexpectedly let go, and during his final month there, he was very lax in enforcing the rules and the people he caught he either ignored or let off with a 'Put that magazine away!' type thing.

Well if I have to pick between sex and violince I will go with sex any day ( actually I do that normally so I guess I am not too far from the tree on this one)

But what makes me sad is the abuse that many people suffer just so we the viewing public can get our rocks off. It's weird cause we pay actors big bucks so that we can show children a million different ways to kill or be killed for nothing and then act shocked when they actually DO kill. And we pay sexually abused or battered human beings little or nothing but drugs to act like lustful whores; who are then quickly replaced by "fresh meat". We never hear of them again they could be lying in a gutter dead for all we known or care as long as we got our rocks off (but then who would want to be know to care for someone who would act so shamefully for the world to see, right? I mean forget the fact that we are talking about human beings here with actual feelings, it would not be "proper" only watching them is "proper" or making fun of them that would be proper also.).

Yet we treat violent directors and producers like heros who should be worshiped cause they want us to believe that violence, explosions and needless death are the only thing we the paying public are capable of apprecianting. Personally I am so feed up with it now days that if I even see a gun displayed needlessly in a movie I change the chanel and surf for a comedy or an emotional drama (it's the only vote I have so I use it, same goes for the movies although I WILL see X-men II)

I call myself responsable and yet if I see a porno that I like I'll buy it or download it in a second without a thought to the suffering that may have been endured to get this "fine" product into my home. What can I say? I'm human (ever wonder why human rhymes with demon not angel)

Human doesn't rhyme with devil either. Seeing as it's usually devils and angels and not demons with angels, I think my point carries greater weight.

But angels fight with demons, there is supposed to be only one devil and that's the Satan, Lucifer guy peps are always talking about. Don't ask me cause I'm a witch and we don't do devils :minigun:

 

Actually, as far as I'm aware, God and his angels didn't fight demons, they only fought the Devil. He was pretty much their only enemy, apart from his gothic minions on earth.

 

well ACTUALLY it is all angel vs angel. On one side there is God and his holy host and on the other side Lucifer and the rest of the angels who fell from grace for refusing to bow to man as the most wonderful of God's creations 0
