    Or it could be not that old at all. Anyway, my friend told me this story, and I have no idea how true it is, but it sounds cool nonetheless. QWERTY was designed to slow down your writing because the original keyboard design was too good. It was so good that everyone was able to type far faster than it was able to take, and thus most keyboards were broken. QWERTY was designed to slow everyone down and not cost the manufacturers a lot in warranty replacements.

    Well, that depends on how you look at it. The first QWERTY keyboard was present on the very first typewriter, which was manufactured and sold by the gunmakers E. Remington & Sons starting in 1874. That's 130 years, so I guess I exaggerated a bit when I said "centuries". Still, I would call it damn old. :)

    EDIT: Heh, from exploring the page a bit more, I've had to change my mind. I was also of the belief that QWERTY was designed to slow typists down, but appearently, that's nothing but a myth.
