    All I got was:

    - New boxer shorts (I really hate shopping for those myself)
    - A new watch

Well, the only reason I got all that was that I had my wife, my parents, and my parent-in-laws buying for me. We always go all out on Christmas, cause we do without a lot of shit the rest of the year. Believe me. Money is tight over at my house. I bought a 20 guage shotgun a few years ago, but it went to shit, so my wife bought that 12 guage from her father. It was basically un-used. So we all shot skeet all day Christmas, and damn, does my shoulder hurt.

Oh, yeah, by the way, I got a $75.00 gift certificate to Wal-Mart. What computer game should I get? Heh heh.....

    To answer your question: http://www.rpgcodex.com/content.php?id=27
Prince of Qin, Morrowind and Divine Divinity are three winners that might be sold at Walmart. Not sure which one(s) you already own.

On a completely unrelated note: why oh why isn't there a region 2 version of that uber-spiffy 2-disc Army of Darkness edition? Or Terry Gilliam's Brazil (Criterion Collection)? WHY, OH GOD WHY?!?

Calis, I have those evil dead special edition releases. The reason I don't complain is that I have a ps2... I just pop in a dvd region selector disc first.

My DVD-Rom doesn't mind region-encoded DVD's either, but it's still annoying to have non-region 2 DVD's. Moreso because I need to order them online, which involves asking my parents for their credit card (I know, one of these days I should really get my own credit card... but I fear what that'd do to my bank balance)
Anyway. Is the special edition AoD DVD worth it? It's a 2-disc version, right?

Hmm, I just checked and I seems that I was mistaken and it's not special after all.. That or there's no mention of it being so. It's digitally THX remastered, has full frame 4x3 and 16x9 widescreen... Plus an alternate ending. So it has most features a special edition would have. As to your questions, it's just one disc and it is worth it, at least for me. I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead.

Well, me too. I just never got around to buying the DVD. I absolutely *dig* my The Evil Dead: Book of the Dead DVD though. The cover is absolutely gorgeous (with a rubber relief designed by the guy who also made the original movie props).

Wow, that indeed rules. You know, most people who know The Evil Dead never saw the first movie. Better yet, they have no idea what the hell it is. I was kinda surprised when I saw it actually. Some people are even fooled by some short story compilation entitled The Necronomicon something (without the something) I've seen that as well and it was some kind of shit. The game turned out to be utter crap as well.

You know, there's one "prequel" to The Evil Dead, a short (30 min) movie called "Within the Woods". It has Bruce Campbell getting possessed by some indian burial ground spirit. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell used that film to get the funding for The Evil Dead (they were both nearing completion of university when they made it, I think).

I also read a journal by one of the guys who helped with the movie. Apparently they smoked a lot of pot the first few days of shooting, but they ran out real fast. :)

Yea, on my special remastered Evil Dead 1 Edition they mentioned something about that prequal and stuff. They left out the part about pot though. :)

Did you like the original Evil Dead? They tried to make it a pure horror movie, no comedy stunts.

I actually liked the original Evil Dead, yes. Thought it was quite good as a horror flick. Though the budget was very limited (I believe they got $30k in total to make the movie with), the inventive camera work made up for a *lot*.

On a related note, I just bought the remastered Evil Dead II special edition as well! Whee! Also, the region 2 version of Army of Darkness (the uber-spiffy 2-disc everything-you'll-ever-want edition) just got released in the UK. Stores clerks told me that they're importing it here and it should be another month or so before I can buy it without having to resort to using my parents' credit card.

I also think that someone NEEDS to put out some kind of uber-edition of both Bad Taste and Braindead. I have both on good-quality DivX but I'd definitely put down the cash for a nifty boxed collector's edition of both.

Nobodie, close, apart from the orgy part and the ass part. Though there's a scene near the end that sorta resembles what you just mentioned. :)

Bad Taste was Peter Jackson's first movie, which he pretty much made with a small group filming only on sundays. It's about a group called the Astral Investigations and Defense Service (A.I.D.S.) that goes off to a town in New Zealand to investigate reports of alien sightings. It turns into a gory (and extremely funny) mess. The movie is a classic, and it kicks ass. You should see it. IMO, it's better than Braindead (Dead Alive), his next effort in the splatter-horror-comedy genre.

On an unrelated note: I might just order that Army of Darkness 2-disc box after all. I'm not sure I feel like waiting a whole month for it.

it's been a while but i think the scene went that he stuck his head out of his arse and said "i've made a real ass out of myself now"..... corny yes..... but it's stuck with me for some reason, the last scene of that same movie (if it help's identify it), the "hero" and his love interest ran out of the mansion after making their "big escape" and drove off in a jeep....... atleast that's what i remember...... damn pot, it's fucked up my whole memory rentention system.

Alright, now I'm convinced you haven't seen the movie *at all*. :)

I could tell you about the scene I meant, but I'm not going to. Jinxed hasn't seen the movie yet, and it's one of the funniest over-the-top gory scenes in the movie. But you were right about two things: it is near the end, and it does come with a cheesy punchline.
    Anyway.
Any other DVD's that I really need to get?

I think I know the film you're talking about. It was apparently a film discussing the prejudices of the class system, but as far as I can remember, it involved a huge orgy, with people melding together during sex, and turning inside out.

The premise was that it was set in the upper class, and the orgy was one of the inbred class events that they hold. During it, I think the daughter ended up sticking out the mother's fanny, with the husband doing both, and the son walks in and realised that he's been adopted from the lower classes.

In the end, he sticks his hand up someone's ass and turns them inside out, then grabs his middle-class girlfriend, and walks out the door, getting in the jeep and driving off, leaving the upper class and his past behind.

    Or something like that. :-o

Wow. Now Ferret and Nobodie have gotten me really curious, as there's apparently a weird-ass movie out there that involves orgies and turning people inside out. And worst of all: I haven't seen it! :-o
