Well they CAN be a pain if you let them too close. Ranged attacks are quite effective against them though, and so are grenades. Corner the beast and start hurling Molotovs- works for me:)

Another question: is Virgil the only healer avaliable for an evil mage? I certainly hope not, but this is what it looks like so far...
Oh and what's Dante and Raven't exact alighnments? Going to try planting Dark Helm on them, maybe they'll join the evil me...

Too bad i don't always have ranged physical attacks :\

Hey never noticed that , there's a multitude of White Necromancers for goody two shoers , but it seems Virgil is the only "cool" person of the bunch.

Two questions though: Do you actually need healers? I haven't developed a decent mage yet so i wouldn't know , so i'm interested in hearing your tales of getting ass-kicked :)

And Secondly: Why not get it yourself? 3CP's isn't terribly alot , and Minor Healing would do ok for emergency healing.

Now a suggestion: Spend a little coin on Morgana's Tears , i believe the investment to be less than 3 cp's (which is less , in my opinion , than having a crappy follower just for healing).

Healers are extremely convenient to have around, even if for the sole purpose of not spending action points on healing when in combat (I miss Dante, even being the coward that he was he was quite a good healer. Besides, I would prefer spending action points in a more useful way than learning to heal that clumsy snob Jeoffrey.

Gove Jeffory & Z'an Hearlers Staves as secondaries. They will heal you. I am told even Chukka & Sog will with these staves. Get Dante before you get too evil. You can cross the line, if necessary, as there is a 20 or 25 evil point quest right there in Blackroot to bring you back down again after you have Dark Helmed Dante.

The problem was I've started with "sold your soul" background, couldn't go higher than -20 evil...
ANyway the healer problem is solved. I got lucky, the "wise woman" in Tarant was selling the Dark Helm and I bought it with her own stolen money. Than I kept planting the Dark Helm on Dante , stealing it back and planting again untill he agreed to join me (Dark Helm's effect seems to remain even after you take it off). Going to do the same trick for Perriman and Raven. Right now I have Virgil, Dante, Jeoffrey, Jormund and Sogg, all 100%evil and 100% magickal- God bless the Helm. I was thinking of 100% magickal Vollinger, but he's hardly good for melee...

vollinger might be too tech for the helm to have an effect. IIRC, he has 5 schematics and several points in firearms.

Hehe that's the beauty of my plan. You put the Dark Helm on someone- he goes +20 in MA and -20 in alighnment. You take the Helm off- the effect STAYS, as if the Helm was still on. Put the Helm on that guy AGAIN- and you have a DOUBLE effect. Continue untill you get 100 MA and if you want, also 100 evil alignment. How do you think I got Dante and Perriman to join me being 100 evil? I've been planting the Dark Helm into their inventory and stealing it back a dozen times for each, untill they became evil enough. And of course they got their MA boosted to 100 as a side effect.

But if a follower is too technical, would the helm work? Seeing as it is magical and one would need an aptitude of around neutral or higher towards magical

If you are too tech the helm won't do anything in the first place.

If you wait to long to put it on magnus, or if you try it on another character with high tech %, it won't do anything, no matter how many times you put it on.

i am well aware of the dark helm's cumulative effect. once it starts working, it can work wonders, but if someone is too tech when you first try to helm them, it doesnt do anything.

I didn't know that. Oh well, not that I needed Vollinger that much in the first place...

So its proven that both the Magickal Aptitude and the Alignement bonuses are permanent? I thought only the alignement was. Well.. so much for a big evil tech party :\

    Yes.

Catch 'em young. Even Magnus can be Dark Helmed sucessfuly early on. The trick is to leave them tech enough for a Pyro Axe.[/quote]
