I wonder how much damage you could do if you laced the area surrounding Stringy Pete with spike traps and bear traps and maybe some plastique...yes...plastique.....and waited to attack him from a distance (say from the ship).

How much damage do you think could be done before the skeltons 86d you?

 

that might work... or you could cast disintergrate on the skeletons a few times, and use some fatigue potions.

sorry to drag up an old (old, old, old, old...) thread, but i had the same problem as OP and found this thread via google search, and thought i'd reply for anyone who does the same...

i was reluctant to use a teleport scroll so i used a scroll of exiting... and surprisingly it worked, the guards stopped attacking me and everything was back to normal.

 

It would've been safer had you simply posted a new thread. Most people here don't appreciate gravedigs, though yours may be OK, considering it's on topic and you're offering advice.
I personally have never had that problem, unless I played as a half-orc with low beauty. Then everyone simply wishes to kill me on sight.
