I'm guessing you're 25 Darkwalker. As you've been in the navy for 7 years.

I'd hardly call that a veteran - you probably haven't even seen real combat yet. The only major war that's happened in that time, is the gulf war, and that was mainly land troups and remote weaponry.

I'm not badmouthing you or anything, it's just that being in the navy for 7 years during a quiet period hardly qualifies you for veteranship. I've known people in the armed forces longer than that, and they're not considered veterans. Besides, that's less than the standard sign-up period for the armed forces.

Ferret - we're talking the US Navy, though. In the US military now, they apply the term Veteran to anyone with an honorable service record. My wife is considered a Navy veteran after 4 years of folding parachutes...

    :-?

Actual wartime service is not a prerequisite to being a veteran.

(by the way, the Gulf War was more than 7 years ago...)

 Was it really? Wow! Doesn't time fly? Mind you, I guess I've been at Uni for 4 years, and that was a year ago now. I guess I haven't really appreciated how long ago that was.... :-?

Bah! That's just stupid. It's simply a way of glorifying themselves to boost their already hideously swollen egos. They're actaully rather crap in battle. Take the gulf war again for example. Just over 70% of all allied casualties were inflicted by the Americans!!!! They just seem to love shooting and bombing our own people and tanks!

There's a hill in northern scotland in a village called 'Red Hill', or something similar anyway. It's home to an American airforce target practice range, and when they practice, most of the villagers go and stand next to the targets, because it's the safest place to be! My parent cycled through there about 10 years ago, and every house, and every road, and every vehicle had bullet holes in them, and the hill was literally untouched!

    Again. Bah!

Thank you for clarifying Luchaire, and yes Ferret, I have seen combat. I would like to elaborate but we of the submarine force aren't called the "silent service" for nothing. I will in fact be 25 tommorow, man, I can't believe how fast time goes after you turn 21.

Tell me about it... seems like yesterday I was celebrating my 21st birthday by hitting casinos (and winning!), and now I'm...well, older than you. :(

Ferret, I've always liked and respected you. I would be truly disappointed if you were trying to belittle my beloved submarine force. BTW in four word story, I thought a persons name, regardless of how many words, was considered one, ie: Spam Khat, Sheriff Fatman, Mr. Cockbreath, etc.

Yes, let us not forget, even as we speak, Retard is trying on the frilly little number his wife got for him.

I hope you enjoy your birthday surprise, 'Tard.

Don't worry - that last one was supposed to be me being witty. Didn't really work though....

    No offense meant.

I still don't hold any faith in the American military though - of any branch.

Only truly hyphenated words count as one. Names, if hyphenated (as in double-barrel names, like smith-klein) count as one.

Happy (somewhat belated) Birthday! 'Tard? Was that you I saw drag the other day? Wearing a frilly pink dress... in the bar?

Gasp! Shock! I think the Marines are pretty cool. Any one here ever read Goodbye, Darkness?

I would really like to know which boat you were on that saw combat. If you don't wish to post it then PM me. As far as I know none of our subs have seen "combat" since the Gulf War.

He means they saw it on the sub's TV, like the rest of us.
