I didn't know you were such a fan of Twain. He was quite a sarcastic, sardonic old fellow, wasn't he?
And he definitely wanted to be paid for his work.

This post offers nothing. Oh, well. Smiley time.

And now I have to hit the sack.
    Then I'm going to sleep.
    Good night.

I did't read any of HP books and I didn't see the movie either. I can only say from the trailers that I doubt I would like it. I'd sooner try a book but then again I prefer to spend my money on Terry Pratchet's books rather than on HP. How does HP compare to Rincewind?

I haven't read much Terry Pratchett (in fact, almost nothing) but the Harry Potter books are good.

At least read the first one.

Ah nuts! Although a bit of a fan, I don't wanna misrepresent myself; it's amazing what an expert you can become with 5 minutes and internet connection. Like I'd be able to quote anyone otherwise :thinker:

Don't hit your sack too hard - they bruise easily. G'night!

That makes NO sense what you just wrote there Fatman...apart from the sack bruising part. Which do you prefer? Potato sack or some other sack? Which model and brands are best?

Um, gee, let's think about that one for a while...

Yes, I believe it's called "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Wow, by startling coincidence it's also at the movies right now .

I have to agree with Dragoon. Terry Pratchett rocks!

I have not read the HP books, but if 10 year olds are reading them en masse, then they probably are not good reading for me.

I was reading Jurassic Park and Stephen King at 10, not the crappy Goosebumps or other kid novels.

My Dad's 70, very intelligent and reads a hell of a lot of high brow stuff. He just finished the third HP book and claims to have enjoyed the three he has read.

In fact, I know many adults, some of them very well educated and discerning who have enjoyed the Harry Potter books. There may be a cultural difference at work, since HP is possibly more slanted towards Brits.

HP is just so Roald Dahl-esque. There's a certain indefinable quality to it, that makes it good to read. Everyone loved Dahl's books, but not everyone loves HP because of the aforementioned witchcraft...

    Now you're simply mean

Regarding other posts : Since you say grown ups are enjoying HP I'm going to read it. I just don't know when since books are quite expensive in Poland and I can't buy one every time I want to read something - which would be right after I finish previous book. :minigun: is my answer to them. Getting back to point perhaps I'll try getting English version (unless it's bloody expensive that is).

Just one of many quotes to convince unfaithful who need to be convinced:

    [Insert Serious Introduction here]
And so the war between Ice Giants and Gods lasted for Eons the reason for it being the fact that Ice Giants didn't want to turn down the radio

OK so it seems like a mediocre joke to you but that's because the whole context is lacking. Try one of Pratchet's books about Rincewind and you'll see for yourselfves (those not about Rincewind are not so funny).

PS: I just loooove these new smileys. Wherever you are Calis thanks

I wonder if the Harry Potter books in Poland would be more expensive than the price of me buying one here and shipping it to you? If not, maybe that's what we could do. To save on postage, it might be better just to buy all four(?) of them and ship them at once.

Yeah, there's only four at the moment. Shipping would probably be more expensive all-up though - the books get bigger the further you go along.

Thanks for the offer Sheriff but I doubt that books in England would be cheaper. I think they're roughly the same price (I didn't check HP yet). It's more about the fact that even though an average price for a book is around 8-10$ it's totally "different" money for someone living in Poland than it is for someone living in England due to difference in salaries. Anyway I'm happy today because I got may hands on "Claudius and Messalina" by Robert Graves for 2,5$ - praise the second-hand bookshops. I began reading it while traveling back home and it seems to be as good as the first part, yuppie!

I getcha. Well, I hope you enjoy the book you picked up. I used to do all my book shopping in second hand stores, and sometimes the finds there were better because they we're on the "new titles" shelves in Waterstones.

I agree. You can find some really good stuff in second hand bookstores, if you know what you want and what to look for.

You don't need the movie to rot kids' mind. My sister thinks that her stuffed dog is alive, and that she's a vegetarian. Neither is true.
